Asking for Directions in Portuguese
Olá! Vamos conversar. Brazilians are generous with directions. They will often walk you halfway instead of just pointing. A few phrases help you accept the help.
Asking
Com licença, onde fica... is the polite opener. Você sabe onde fica is even warmer. Add por favor at the end.
If you are near a landmark, name it. Brazilians orient by landmarks more than by street names.
Understanding the answer
Direita is right. Esquerda is left. Reto is straight. Esquina is corner. Quadra is block. Perto is near. Longe is far.
If the directions feel fast, ask pode repetir mais devagar.
