Common Mistakes
Why You Should Stop Translating Word by Word
Olá! Vamos conversar. Translating word for word produces sentences that are technically correct and conversationally dead. Brazilian Portuguese has its own structure and rhythm.
Common collisions
I have hunger becomes tenho fome, not eu tenho fome (sometimes). I am thirty years old becomes tenho trinta anos, not sou trinta anos. I miss you becomes tô com saudade, not eu perco você.
Building Portuguese thoughts
Listen to short Brazilian sentences. Copy them as units. Reuse them. Fluency grows by collecting chunks, not by translating words.
