Basic Portuguese
How to Introduce Yourself in Portuguese (with Examples)
Olá! Vamos conversar. Your first sentence in Portuguese sets the tone for everything that follows. Get it right and the rest of the conversation flows.
The core sentence
Meu nome é followed by your name is the most natural opening. Sou + your name also works and feels slightly more casual.
Brazilians often add where they are from, what they do, and a small smile. Length is not the goal. Warmth is.
Adding details without sounding scripted
After your name, share one true detail. Sou de Boston. Trabalho com design. Estou aprendendo português há três meses. One detail invites a question. Three detail dump everything into a wall.
If you forget a word, do not stop. Brazilians appreciate effort more than perfection and will help you find the missing piece.
