Olá! Vamos conversar. Brazilian months look almost identical to their English cousins, but the seasons swap. January is summer. July is winter. Your mental calendar needs a small reset.

The months in Portuguese

Janeiro, fevereiro, março, abril, maio, junho, julho, agosto, setembro, outubro, novembro, dezembro. All lowercase in writing, unlike English.

Use em for in. Em janeiro. Em julho. Simple and consistent.

The flipped seasons

Verão runs roughly December to March. Outono April to June. Inverno July to September. Primavera October to December. Regions vary, especially in the Northeast where seasons feel more like a rainy and a dry half.
