Using Tu and Você Without Embarrassment
Olá! Vamos conversar. Tu and você both mean you. In Brazil, the choice depends mostly on region, occasionally on register, rarely on grammar.
Você is the safe default
Used in São Paulo, Rio, Minas, most of Brazil. Conjugates with the ele and ela forms. Você fala, você pensa, você quer.
Tu is regional
Common in Rio Grande do Sul, parts of the Northeast and the North. Many speakers conjugate tu with ele forms instead of textbook tu forms. Tu fala instead of tu falas.
